I want to start this review by saying that Ninja Popups for WordPress is one of the best “bang for your buck” email capture plugins you can buy. It’s currently being sold for a measly $25! Yes, that’s a one-time fee!!! Ridiculously low, I know!

If you are trying to grow your list, but are on a small budget, then this WP plugin is definitely for you. But don’t let its low price fool you into thinking it’s just some crappy plugin. Ninja Popups offers a tremendous value that even challenges the likes of Bloom and OptinMonster.

Ninja Popups Offers Over 65+ Fully Customizable Templates

This plugin comes with over 65 unique pop-up templates. I’ve looked them over and quite a few jumped out at me. You can see some examples of the available options below:

Once you find the pop-up template you like, you can customize it. Every template is fully customisable – you can even adjust the width. Below you’ll find another image of everything you can customize.

Overlay

Ninja Popups gives you the ability to add an image to the pop-up form and also to control the overlay opacity. This is a nifty little feature that can make your pop-up less intrusive.

Welcome and Exit Pop-Ups

You can set the plugin to pop-up when a person either comes to your site or is about to leave it. The welcome pop-up can be set to appear upon page load, after X seconds, or when the user scrolls down a certain % of the page. The exit pop-up can be set to appear when the user is about to exit the page when the mouse leaves the viewport, and when the user clicks an external link.

Scheduled Pop-ups

Ninja Popups for WordPress also offers you the ability to set a start date and an end date for your pop-ups. It’s an interesting feature, but I don’t know how useful it is. As an internet marketer, you want to collect emails ALL the time, so having a date specific pop-up doesn’t offer you too much of a benefit.

There are a few times when this feature could be useful. For example, if you are setting deadlines for prospects to sign-up for a specific offer or if you are having an early-bird discount for a product you are launching.

(Yes/No) 3 Step Pop-Ups
3-step-opt-in

The three step pop-up is a reasonably new pop-up that has become popular within the last 2 years. It’s called a 3 step pop-up because when it first pops up, it prompts the user to answer a yes or no question. If the user answers “Yes” he is then asked to submit his contact info. If he answers “No”, the pop-up closes. It operates on the psychological concept of consistency and is more effective than just having a pop-up form that asks for contact information right from the start.

Close Button and Delay Settings

Have you ever visited a website only to be trapped there by a pop-up with no close button? It’s one of the most annoying experiences you’ll ever have on the internet. That’s why you shouldn’t promote those type of pop-ups on your site!

Luckily, Ninja Popups gives you the ability to set-up some clear close buttons on all of your pop-ups. You can also set up a delayed auto-close which is a cool feature that will make your website users happy. Using a pop-up is fine, but taking away someone’s free will and forcing him to subscribe to your email list is not.

Automatic Redirect

The Ninja Popups plugin also allows you to redirect users after they submit their emails. This is a great feature that you can use to direct users to a page on your website that tells them what to do next. I use a double opt-in so I redirect users to a page that tells them how to confirm their submission.

Uses Cookies to Remember Subscribers

This opt-in plugin gives you the option to remember subscribers as well as those who didn’t subscribe. You can control when and if a user will see the opt-in form again. The form can be set to never, once per session, or once every few days.

A/B Testing and Analytics

Like other email capture plugins, Ninja Popups offers the ability to A/B test several forms against each other. You can keep track of how well each form is performing through the analytics data that is gathered.

Theme Builder for Pop-Up Form Creation

Ninja Popups recently added a theme builder feature. It’s similar to OptinMonster’s visual editor. Theme builder allows you to create your own opt-in forms from scratch. You can customize all aspects of the form with just a few point and clicks.

While it’s a great concept, the theme builder is a little hard to use. It feels a bit clunky and has a few bugs. I tried to create a few custom pop-ups and I had a hard time aligning all the different elements. The process wasn’t that smooth and it felt a bit jerky at times. It’s usable and it works, but it’s a bit annoying.

Additional Add-Ons for Ninja Popups

There are three additional add-ons you can purchase separately. I’ve written briefly about each one below.

10 Theme Pack – These are 10 additional well-designed themes that are fully customizable. While I don’t think these are a necessity, they are worth checking out.

Optin Bars Pack – 16 well-designed email capture bars that pop-up from the bottom of the screen. These are eye-catching so you might benefit from having them on your site.

Ninja Widget Extra – This widget offers you the ability to have an inline opt-in box that can be placed inside posts, pages, or even the sidebar area. Definitely, a must if you want a complete email capture solution.

Final Verdict: Ninja Popups for WordPress is the Best Email Capture Plugin You Can Buy for Under $30

Ninja Popups offers a lot of value for an extremely low price. For a small one-time fee, you get a lot of features that are normally only available on other more expensive plugins (like OptinMonster). If you are trying to build your list on the cheap, then this is the plugin for you. It offers lots of templates, both a welcome and exit pop-ups, and yes/no 3 step pop-ups. For the $25 the developer is asking, this pop-up plugin is an incredible deal!
